I just purchased a 2002 Axiom w/39k miles Last week and I can notice this similar "thud" when it comes to a very complete stop and right when acceleration begins... Did you evre get an answer to your question? Does Any1 know if my vehicle is still under warranty?

Thanks

The "thud" is nothing to worry about.
When braking, the forces applied to the rear axle housing cause the nose (front) of the differential to pitch downward.
When you apply throttle on take-off, or even just let off the brake and idle away, the differential regains it''s alignment with the driveshaft and this is the thud you are hearing.

Lubricating rear suspension components at hinge points should remedy the problem if it concern you.

Try wetting the entire rear suspension with a hose and nozzle, saturate all components that look like they move and test drive again trying to duplicate the thud, water as a temporary lubricant.

You''ll notice too, that on a rainy day when the undercarriage is wet, you don''t hear this thud, correct....?

The transmission light is not on...it automatically shifts nice from 1st to 2nd when I accelerate. When I ease to a slow stop there is no noise and when I ease the acceleration there is no noise. Any clues? I am thinking transmission, but that is the only symptom, but I am thinking rear end noise too.

The EXACT same thing is happening to my Axiom. I thought it might be the transmission but Im also thinking it may be an engine mount too. I remember my buddy had a similar issue with his car and it was an engine mount... Anyway, Did you get an answer to this question anywhere else?
