Mine has done it since I bought it a few weeks ago. I've changed the
oil in it already and run Lucas in it and it didn't really make a
difference. i find it's noisy when it first starts up,obviously because
the oil needs to get circulating,and once it warms up it still
ticks,but not as bad,and I've got 253 000km on it. I did theold broom
handle trick to listen to which ones are ticking the worst and it's the
#3 cylinder closest to the firewall on the driver's side that's the
worst of all 6.

 

I put this additive in mine, and it took a day to work but it's nice and quiet now. I already tossed it away or else I'd post what it was. I'll get back to everyone.

This may be AP's attempt at a truly unisex model and it looks like they've done a great job with it.? Is it ticking on the top end you are hearing or is it the belt tentioner that is an actual slap? I had to replace the belt tentioner, which is very common on the Isuzu.
