Default 2001 Rodeo idle problems

Hey All!

We have a 2001 Rodeo, 3.2L, Auto, 4X4 with about 115k on the clock. Here in the last month, it has started to have a problem with idling. When started, it will intermittently rev from almost dead to 3000. It does not do this always, sometimes it is just a few times, or not to as high of a RPM. I have only seen this after start up, however my wife said it did it when she parked, and the engine was warm, it rapidly went from normal idle to 3000 RPM. She also has said it will do it when restarted after a trip, ie, warm engine. I have changed the fuel filter, air filter, PCV valve, looked for vacuum leaks and general security of engine components. It drives normally. I did the search and I will check the wiring to the power steering pump. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm much more familiar with my Jeep than the Rodeo, but the Rodeo sure is a good work horse for a nicer vehicle.

Checked the wiring to the power steering pump, that's fine. Any suggestions?

I would check the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) Somewhere near the throttle. I have a 2.2L 4Cyl Rodeo.

I had an old trooper that did the rev up/down thing. That was a bad egr valve.

Update-

Well, I think I may have fixed it. Of course it never really had the idle problem when I was trying to work on it, but it does idle lower, and the fan is quieter. Not sure how that is, but it is. I cleaned the throttle body up really good, but I had tried that before, just with Mass Air flow cleaner, not carb cleaner, so I don't think that was it. Then I removed the EGR valve and cleaned that out really good with carb cleaner. I got all kinds of crud out of that. Bolted everything back up, and it started right up, idle dropped immediately to less than it was before, and even the fan was quiet. Started it several times, then took it out for a good hard drive, and it ran great. Hopefully that was it. I'll post back it there is anything else that happens.
Thanks for ideas guys.
