First Generation Trooper technical Support
My name is Johnny5ive, I live, eat and breathe first gen Isuzu Troopers. If you're having problems I can help you. I really don't like spending time on this forum due to the over-commercialization. There is a forum setup specifically for the Isuzu Trooper

Johnny,
Good evening. Quick question for you. I am a long time contributor to another auto forum but am new to the Isuzu forum. Now that I finally bought my dream Trooper, I expect to be on this site regularly.
1986 Trooper. Gasser. Rebuilt engine and new clutch. Chirps in 3rd gear sometimes. Can be prevented by double clutching. I am about to change the manual trans fluid... should I use 10W30 oil? I live in a very hot and tropical climate. Should I go with a gear oil or just use crankcase weight oil? There seems to be a wide difference of opinion on this matter. Thanks!

86 trooper ii. 2.3 4ZD1.
Engine is back together, but misses and backfires. EGR is new. Timing light says it is good.
Want to make sure the camshaft is in proper alignment. If I am reading Haynes correctly, TDC for number one and align crankshaft marks. Done and on the money. But Camshaft should be TDC for number four and that would put the marks on the Cam 180° from the marks on the Crank. Is that correct or did I fail basic english?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Johnny,
Thanks... 10W30 in the manual trans is what I will do. By "Chirping" I meant that it grinds but goes into gear. I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done to help this. It only does it in 3rd gear.

hello i am new to the forum but i and a long time first gen trooper lover i currently have an 85 isuzu trooper that i bought off of a friend. he sold it because for and off road vehicle it was gutless witch the 85 generally were. it comes stock with a 4spd and when i first bought it that was all it needed. how ever time went on and i seemed to be loosing power every day so i decided to rebuild it and to my suprise when i pulled the pistons the ring on three out of the four fell into 100 little pieces. the done to the cylinder walls was so great i had to bore it 40 over. anyways now it runs lick a champ and had a great bit more power witch finally brings me to my point. are there any 5pd trannys that will bolt up to my 1.9l because i find the end of 4th gear on the highway at about 55mph it will do 60-70 but not with out shotguning my gas. any info would be fantastic
