Did a Quick search and didn't find a relevant answer. So here goes. The Trooper has 140,000 miles on it, it runs fine, but on cold fire-ups, it takes about 2 full seconds to catch (just long enough to make you wonder.....), but after warm ups, it fires immediately. This is my first Trooper, but my third Isuzu , and my other 2 (different motors) fired right up. Is this Normal? Or is there something I should be looking to service or replace? Thanks in advance.

 

my 2000 Trooper has the exact same problem. I've been living with it for about a year thinking it was nothing. Recently I dropped it off at Goodyear to get tires and the starter died while it was in the shop. I thought it was related to the long cold start and that replacing the starter would fix the problem but it did not. I occasionally get the check engine light but usually pay no attention to it. I put the car to the test by taking it ona long 12 hour road trip and it performed fine, in fact the CHK light went out. I have 95k miles and replaced the transmission at about 65k under warranty. Dare I take this to the dealer to investigate the long start?

 

I just had this same problem FIXED after about 9 months of procrastination. My 2000 Trooper would never start the first time I turned it over, almost always started on the 2nd try. I took it to a small repair shop that actually spent some time trying to replicate and troubleshoot the problem (DON"T GO TO THE DEALER!!!). The culprit was that some fuel injectors were leaking slightly after the engine was turned off. That leaking was enough to flood the cylinder, preventing the initial re-start. A re-furbishment of the injectors solved the problem, to the tune of about $500 labor cost. My trooper has about 85k miles.
