Afternoon guy,s. Grandson has an 04 Rodeo with the 3.2.About a month ago it started making a sharp metallic sounding noise.Son in law had it towed to a shop,and they said "broken rod"...NO hole in the block.I did a compression test and all 6 are around 120 PSI...so THAT diagnosis was wrong obviously.Saw a U-tube video about the belt tensioner making almost the same noise...we have pulled timing belt covers off,and timing marks appear to be spot-on...I would rather fix something that was BAD broke rather than the "trial and error method"....Timing belt component kit ordered,including water pump,tensioner etc.....what else could it be?,or Are on the right track?
