</>My dad recently passed away and has left a 1993 Isuzu pickup with the 2.3L. Its agood truck and has definately seen better days. Last time it was driveable it was burning lots of oil and finally justgave. Took it to a shop and the man said it needed the CARB rebuiltor a new one. Dont wantto rebuild the carb or even rebuild the engine. Its got about 130,000 miles. I figured I want to keep the truck, just because my dad loved that truck, and it always helps to have a truck around the house. The thing is, not too many of these2.3L engines are sitting around in junk yards and the power ofthese engines is mediocre at best. I was wondering what engines are easily swapped into this chassis, and when I mean easily I mean either plug and play or maybe a little bit with the wiring. I am not looking for a project truck with an insane engine swap. Is the 2.6L four a direct plug and play swap? CanI keep the 5 speed tranny from the2.3L? I've also heard some chevy motors will swap right over. CanI use the stock mounts, or the mounts from the other motor? I'm leaning towards the 2.6L just because thoseare easily found in salvage yards and should be easily swapped. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Edited by: sa3reghatch

The real question here is how much do you want to spend? Many people have swapped 2.6 L4 to 3.2 V6 from Rodeo's and Troopers, Chevy and Ford V6's &V8's, and some have thrown in diesels. It depends how mechanically inclined you are and the dollars you want to spend. My recommendation would be to swap in a 2.6 and look for others who have done the swap. There's a pretty good Isuzu communities on Car Domain or IsuzuPup.com. Good luck with the swap and let us know how it goes.

Here is a link to someone who decided to go from 2.3 to 2.6. A wealth of information for you to know when you decide to do the swap.

2.3 to 2.6 hybrid, tons of parts need info on which I need.

Not sure where you are located...but I have a 1992 (reg cab)4X4 pickup, factory GM 3.1 (V6)engine, 5 speed, manual lock-up hubs. The engine has 160K on it buts still runs like new. The frame is shot (rotted).

I still use it on my farm...but if you are interested...I'd sell the entire truck cheap. Might be an easy swap?

Heres' my e-mail: ziptow@yahoo.com

I also have a "new" never installedtailgate for the truck $100.

i have done this swap from a 2.3l to the 2.6l from a rodeo. the only things that are different are the oil pan,and you will have to get an inline fuel pump(very easy to install)if you keep it carbureted.wish you well it only took me about 5 hours to do the swap so its really simple......good luck!! nick aka dragger
