Car: 1999 trooper 3.5l 4x4. Had symptoms of starter failer past week; car struggled to start, but started. Now the started will not respond at all when attempting to start the car. I located the starter and its in a crappy position, above the oil pan by exhaust system. Wanted to know if there is a write up or step by step instructions on how to remove the starter?

I looked through all of the PDF''s that i have and i could not find a particular write-up on removal but i know that i could not get mine ut without having to remove the exhaust pipe and i couldn''t get the exhaust pipe out without having to remove the transfer case and i couldn''t get the t-case out without having to remove the cross member. My advise if you are mechanically inclined, just take your time and look at everything that is in the way and it will fly apart for you. OH.. and spray some GOOD penetrant on the exhaust manifold studs that hold the pipe on the night before you attempt to remove them. They are usually REALLY tight.
