Does anyone on this group know anything about Isuzu engine compatibility on later model Troopers? Hell, no one on this planet seems to know anything about them. Any ideas on a direction to turn to find someone who might know something?

I have a 1995 with an 3.2L SOHC gas engine. I haven't had any luck at finding an SOHC motor, just DOHC's. Need to know if the swap is possible and if it's even worth it. Thanks for any help that you can give.

The 1995 rodeo engine will work, but make sure it is not a 1996 or newer the 96 and up had a diff relutor ring on the crank and the vehicle will not start, the dohc could work if you put the intake and common chamber from the sohc, What is wrong with the engine you have? It may be better to rebuild the engine you have instead of going through the trouble of trial and error

It's using 2-3 quarts of oil between changes. Was hoping to do a JDM swap with an SOHC but can't find one, or a DOHC if possible. With the prices I have gotten locally for a rebuild, I could buy a newer trooper. What's considered reasonable for a rebuild.

A reasonable price would be some where between (do it yourself price) 500-1000 dollars, If you are going to pay a shop you may be right on buying a newer trooper, and the parts are easier to get also

Thanks for the input. My truck is in really good shape so it makes the decision on what to do kinda tough. Mine gets better mileage than the bigger motors but the oil usage sucks. Not enough time or experience to do the engine myself. Too cheap to buy new. Was hoping that with all the JDM crap I see out there for other brands that the Troopers would fall into the same boat. Oh well. Sounds like I should punt.
