Looking to put 30 x 9.5 " Cooper Stt tires on my 99 Rodeo S. Stock it has 235/75 R 15's (About 27.5 x 7"). I'm wondering if anyone has put bigger treads onand how big is possible without a lift. I plan on cranking up the torsion bars this weekend but I only have about an inch I can go before the front is even height with the back.Also, is only having about an inch of clearance between the rubber stops and the axl and/or wishbonenormal when sitting on flat ground without any load. I know the alternate tire size for my veh is a 245 60/R16, about 29" x 8, but I'm not even sure those would fit underneath.


This is a new used vehicle for me so I'm not sure of anything about this truck...I miss my 01 Explorer Sport!

My wife has a '93 2x4, I just put 31x10.5x15 BF Goodrich Land Terrain's on it. They fit beautiful, no rubbing anywhere.

Thanks...Unfortunately when they changed the body style (although only slightly over the years) about 1997 or 98, they dropped the option of a 31 inch tire. They moved down to a 245/60 R16, at least in Canada, and that only is about 29 ". I am confident that a 30 x 9.5 will fit and I have ordered some Dayton Timberline M/T's in that size. I did some measurements with my tire guy and it seemed a 31" tire would be cutting it too close. As it was I raised the front end about an 1" 1/2 just to accomodate the 30's. We figured an additional 1" upfront and longer coils in the back would make 31's fit, but I'm not looking to raise my vehicle. I'll update when the new rubber is on to confirm or dismiss my suspicions about 31's for anyone who is interested.

Well, if anyone is interested I just fit 30 x 9.5's on my 99 rodeo S. All I did was crank up the torsion bars 1 1/4 " to match the height in the back and they fit fine so far. I can definately say that you cannot go bigger unless you put some sort of lift in. I only have about 3/4 clearance before I hit the rear part of the fender well when the wheels are cranked. You may squeek 31's under but expect some rubbing when you turn hitting a bump. It is possible to get somemore lift from the front torsion rods...At least another 1-2 inches but you will have to add longer springs in the back. I read one guy in this forum put Trooper prsings in that brought him up 2 ". That will do fine and you will be able to make front end adjustments to match the lift. Should be a cheep way to do it.

I've had 30x9.50's on mine since I bought it, no problems. I didnt have to crank the frontend up, still at stock.Anything larger and you definatly need a lift and/or fender trimming. the largest you can go is 33x12.50 and thats with lift and trimming, any larger then you need longer rear links because you cant trim the front part of the rear fender wells. That is also pushing the limit of what the CVs can handle.


You can get 3-4" of lift out of a 2nd gen rodeo with longer springs and torsion bar crank. There is lots of info on lifting on 4x4wire.com as well as other sites.

I have 31x10.5 Maxxis Radials on my '97 model with 15x8 wheels with a 3 inch offset. They make it have a way more aggresive stance and they dont rub at all
