After reading the archives I see that this tends to be a common problem. My local Hondadealer wants $300+ to fix this. My question is if I get this fixed how long before it go out again? Have they upgraded the sending units or is it just a matter of time before it happens again? Todd H

it takes awhile for it to happen again,there are no upgrades yet,even some G.M. cars with the same still do the same,it may happen once or twice with the life of the vehicle.

So is there a cheaper option to fix this? I'm assuming parts from Honda and Isuzu are the same price. Todd H

If you do the work yourself you can do it alot cheaper. The dealer wants to install the complete fuel pump. You can buy just the sending unit for around $35 shipped from St. Charles Isuzu (ask for merlin) and just replace that part.


The big problem with the sending unit is sulfur in the fuel reacting with the contacts causing them to wear. The EPA has mandated lower sulfur in fuel and levels will be dropping considerably over the next few years so I think we will see this issue go away.

I buy so many parts from my dealer that I have my own parts guy at this point for my 2 99 rodeos. I also work for autozone so I can get some parts from work but few. But I have found the sending units for mostly 42 in the Ohio area.
