We have a 1988 Isuzu Trooper that will not start. We replaced the fuel pump, checked the coil, distributer, spark plugs and wires, and it is getting gas, but still won't start. Any idea's?

did u check your engine or the starter itself? or, there might be some wirings that u still haven't checked..if it still won't work, try consulting a trusted mechanic to do the stuff so ur not worrying bout your car at all..and the assurance of driving your car in a good condition,is a great necessity..gotsome idea boutyour isuzu trooper (http://www.partstrain.com/ShopByVehicle/ISUZU/TROOPER)here..

You should check one of the ignition modules that is located below the intake manifold. The same thing happened to me, and I did the same checks that u did, but I became frustrated and hauled my troop to an isuzu mechanic, he figured out that that module was fried.

Does the engine turn over?

Does it start for a bit then stop?

Yes to these questions it may be the altnernator. Did you check if the old fuel pump was good? There is a switch in the alt that controls a relay that switches power going to the fuel pump from battery to alt power after start up. It goes bad and everything seems to point to the fuel pump malfunction. This is common with rebuild alts. I don't think the switch get replaced or checked. The local auto place can not check it either. The alt still pumps out 14+ volts. Good luck
