Having trouble diagnosing a check engine code. Check engine light only comes on when pressing the gas pedal, and the check engine light flashes. Mechanic read the code and says it is a random misfire. The problem started right after I tuned up the trooper with new plugs and a new fuel filter. Anyone got an idea?

I would check the connection at the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), and MAP ( Manifold Absolute Pressure). I don't know if an 01 has coil packs over each plug or if it has plug wires, but make sure the plug wires are on the correct plug.
btw, what is the code(s)

you installed the wrong plugs, ngk iridiums ONLY!!!!.also check number 6 coil if it was mixed up it also will cause missfire,an last disconnect the ion sence module on top of the intake with key off, then reconnect it,do the same with all the coils.this trick also works, but most of all the wrong spark plugs usaually the blame esp those cheap over priced bosch platinums.
