I was driving my 01 Rodeo LSE 3.2 4A with a 1/2 a tank of gas then all of a sudden the gas gauge goes down to empty, then the low gas indicator starts flashing, then the check engine light goes on. I filled it with gas now the gauge is fine and not flashing, but the check engine light stays on, no flashing. I just purchased this and it only has 68,000 drives nice, no tapping, no grinding, does not seem to be burning oil.. Any clues? and how can I reset the check engine light

The CEL should reset itsself eventually after a certain number of cycles. Or you can go to autozone and have the code read and cleared for free.

The problem is a bad fuel sending unit. Pretty common on 2nd gen rodeos. Mine never set a CEL but its supposed to. Here is on info on the problem and replacing the sensor... http://isuzufaq.ibctech.ca/#faq2

yeah shouldnt be a problem, some have driven theirs for years with a bad sending unit. If the CEL is on it might cause the puter to change running paramaters and effect gas mileage or how it runs, I'm not sure. Should still be ok though. Just watch the mileage so you dont run out of gas

I have same issue on my 2001 rodeo. Autozone diagnosed as PO463, bad fuel sending unit. Dealer said couple hundred dollars to replace. I called Isuzu 800 number from website and was informed that it was covered under 10 yr/ 120k mile warranty. She said Rodeo was only one that included fuel sending unit since it was all one unit, whatever that means. She opened case and told me to call back before scheduling appt at dealer and they would contact service dept to ensure they understood it was covered.

Might try this first. Good luck. Hope this gets to you before you spend money on repairs.

Wow thats surprising. Most ppl get the run around from isuzu telling them it isnt covered under warranty. Some ppl were able to get it covered and some werent. Since I'm 3rd or 4th owner on mine there was no warranty so I did it myself. Not that bad of a job to do. Took me a few hours by myself in a parking lot with a floor jack.

In case you want to see the cause...

Old vs new sending unit..

There was a problem with very high sulfur content in gas for a while which attacked the the contacts of the sending units. Should not be a problem again since the EPA mandated much lower sulfur content in gas now.

Same thing happened to mine last year and we had the dealer replace it. I purchased mine on Ebay also but had the dealer do it for about $150.
