have a 86 trrooper with the 2.3 carb engine. i have taken all the smog control apparatus off and blocked off all the unused ports to the carb. my timing is currently at 8 degrees BTC and idles fine. however....upon easy acceleration (in any gear) or trying to cruise at a low speed (10-25 mph) the engine stutters and starts to huck-a-buck until more gas is given. am in the appropriate gear for the speeds and am planning to use it soon in the woods during hunting and dont want to esase down to my spot bucking like a bronco. any ideas on how to fix it? smileys/smiley11.gif

it could be a vacuum leak, or that the carburetor is dirty and clogged. you can also do routine tune up changes, like pcv valve replacement, air filter replacement, distributor cap, wires, and spark plugs replacement. Your problem is most probably there.

a clogged catalytic converter will cause ezxcessive backpressure.this will foul injectors and plugs and give the symptoms you describe

on the carb thier is a cut off valve with two wires, make sure you are getting 12v to there. my 86 trooper had the same problem and that was the cause in my case. good luck

you could also ditch the oem carb and install a weber carb like I did !!!

best mod so far on my trooper yet!!!!
