98 Rodeo v6 5speed 125,000 miles

I see a lot of you guys have some great older rodeos and was wondering what you all do to keep them running in tip top shape. I love my rodeo and want to keep it running great for a very long time.

Just wondering.Edited by: klfasold

The biggest thing with '98+ rodeos is to keep the oil rings and piston holes clean so it doesnt burn oil. This means running good quality oil with a good cleaning package (shell rotella diesel oil, mobile 1, etc.) keep the egr valve and tube inside the intake clean, clean/replace the pcv valve often, sea foam or auto rx treatments.

I have seen some posts from ppl that had the engines destroyed when all the oil burned off in 400-500 miles. Check oil with every gas fill up.

If its 4wd, replace the factory drive flanges on the front with manual locking hub. Will greatly extend the life of the cv joints and boots.

Just take care of it. Keep ontop of the oil changes. (I like full synthetic), keep the intake clean as Gizmo pointed out. Change belts Before they brake. I dont believe in running injector cleaner as often as recomended by the companys but throw some in every once and a while, injectors are very expensive. Watch, listen, and feel what your rodeo is doing, if there is a problem dont ignore it until it destroys everything els.

You can do alot yourself to keep that Rodeo going for 200k, fallow Gizmo's addvice, and my own and you should have a good chance of making 200k.
