4Wd Lo and HI
#2
4hi is the same final gearing as 2hi but power to both axles. 4lo is reduced gearing for more torque at low speed. Take it out in the dirt (prefereably on some hills) and play with it. Will be obvious then.
Power steering pumps are about $100-150 depending on where you get it.

You mean your shift lever is stuck in low? If so then that is bad. Possibly a bent or broken shift fork in the t-case, not fun to fix. Dont know if a shift on the fly malfunction could cause that, I wouldnt think so.
Hopefully you werent using 4wd on dry pavement. Its not AWD and needs a loose surface (dirt or snow) so the wheels can slip a bit. Otherwise it can bind up and break parts. Not sure if that would cause that particular problem either.

Any vehicle can get stuck in anything at some point. Tires have the most to do with it. You will get stuck in mud alot easier with street tires then with mud tires. Lockers or limited slip can help some with not getting stuck but can still happen.
HERE are some pics of Mike and Myself stuck in the same mud hole at different times. Both of our trucks had good offroad tires and limited slip at the time. I have a locker in the rear of mine now which should help me a bit.
If your shifter was stuck in 4lo it would be obvious. Can only do about 20 mph in 3rd gear in low range (never had mine in a higher gear in low).
