Hi All,

New to the forum, bought a 99 Amigo 4x2 for my kids.I am a novice mechanic and would like some help with the following issues.

Check Engine light comes on intermitently - no real change in engine or driveability...

Sometimes when it is started the idle surges and falls down to almost a stall after about 30 seconds it goes away.

Have a "sucking" sound coming from around the EGR area - can't really find the culprit - could this be infact the EGR?

ABS light is on, is there a way I can diagnose the problem without taking it to the dealer?

Thanks for your help!!

Ben

i had a similiar problem with a truck at work. Sounds like a vacum leak. I also noticed that when i removed the oil cap, the sucking went away. Sounds to me there might be leak in the EGR, or the idle control valve. I have that problem with my Mustang.

Hey there, need some suggestion. Just bought a 1999
amigo with at least 114K miles runs good and all but having problems with the
check engine light and the gas gauge. The used car dealer has little
knowledge of the car and says it is the censor. He purchased this vehicle
from the Dallas auction. Not that I am being naive or stereo typing my
self. Being a women and all I have little knowledge but sure not a dumb
one eager to learn about the car. As for now can someone tell me how much
gallon takes to fuel this amigo?

Intermitent problems such as yours could be caused byamissing gas cap. Your air filtr probably needs replacing too.

Hi theredlusica,

Nice looking ride, by the way! I have a 99' and it holds either 16.9 or 17.9 gallons...I don't have my manual with me right now. I have the 6 cylinder and get about 400 miles to a tank on the highway and about 300-350 in the city. I had a similar problem with my check engine light and it turned out that I just hadn't been tightening the cappast three clicks when I finished fueling up. Good luck and welcome to Amigo ownership...they are a blast to have!

I agree with the other replys. On my 2000 Amigo I was freaked when I first saw an engine light come on after filling up. But after driving it went away. It reads on the gas cap about the possible problem if the gas cap is not tight, but when the fuel dips below a 1/4 tank this occurs as well as a flashing gas light and the gauge heads twards E and then back up. Weird,I thought my Amigo was possesed, but I havelearned tolive with it. Does not seem to effect the performance.
